My Bio: Dawn M. Hagens
What You Might Want To Know About Me
My name is Dawn Hagens and I'm 49 years young. I was born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where I attended Greater Johnstown High School and Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center. After high school, I attended Cambria Rowe Business College and attained my Executive Secretarial/Business Administration Associate in Applied Science Degree graduating with a 3.6 GPA. I worked for a year and a half after graduating and then after I had my daughter in 1995, we decided I would be a stay-at-home.
I currently attend online courses at Bryant and Stratton College in New York and will graduate in August 2023 with my Criminal Justice Associate Degree. I will graduate with honors as a member of the Alpha Beta Gamma Honor Society. In my spare time, I enjoy riding my fiance's motorcycle, making lighthouses and other crafts out of terra cotta pots, spending time with our children and grandchildren, sitting on the porch, reading, karaoke, and listening to music.

Goals (Personal & Professional): Dawn M. Hagens
Professional Goals
My professional goal is to obtain a job within the juvenile probation office in order to help at-risk youth learn that they have more potential than they realize. I want to help guide them in the right direction so that they see that they don't have to live a life of crime and that they can become anything that they set their minds to. Some of these children don't have a positive role model in their lives and all they know is what they see at home from their parents and other family members that are in and out of jail. I want to help them understand that they can succeed in school and become successful, law-abiding, productive members of society. If I have just one child come back to me and say, "Miss Hagens, because of you I finished school, graduated college, and have a great career and never went back to doing what I was doing to get into trouble." I have met my goal and fulfilled my purpose in this life.
Assignments: Dawn M. Hagens
PLEG155 - Wills, Trusts, and Estates Portfolio Project
This project shows my ability to evaluate fact patterns and analyze client scenarios to create appropriate estate plans; it also shows my ability to draft basic estate documents using standard forms consistent with state statutory and probate requirements.
Within this project, you will find an estate plan, a will, a trust, and an ethical summary based on a hypothetical scenario for Luke Carter. He came into the hypothetical law firm needing an estate plan that would outline what he would like done with his assets and property.

CRJU225 - Security Administration Portfolio Project
This assessment will show not only my ability to transfer the knowledge, skills, and behaviors I acquired through formal and informal learning and life experiences to new situations within my career but also my ability to employ strategies for reflection on what I have learned and practice what I have learned in order to continuously improve by adjusting my learning processes.
For this project, I prepared an analytical report that determined the effects of a breach that occurred and investigated methods that could be used to prevent the magnitude of a breach such as the fictional one given from happening in the future. The outcome was met by researching and analyzing the information I found and putting it into a report giving my recommendation for the improvement needed for the fictional bank to avoid any further breaches in information in the future and what they can do to recover from the one that they had.

CRJU135 - Security in the 21st Century Portfolio Project
This assessment shows my knowledge of PowerPoint as well as shows my ability to distinguish job functions and responsibilities of both public and private agencies serving the justice sectors.
For this project, I prepared a PowerPoint that demonstrated the history between private and public security in the 21
st century and its development, their duties, their similarities, and differences, how they are each involved in risk management, and both sector's code of ethics. This outcome was met by researching both sectors of security and by using the information in our lectures to compile and create the PowerPoint to which Instructor Pereyda said “This was very well done! You have a lot of details and information in here and this PowerPoint is formatted very well. This is one that you save, and you may present it one day to a group or use it for a reference on how to construct a very informative PowerPoint. Nicely done here!”

CRJU235 - Foundations of Criminal Law and Procedure Portfolio Project
This is my assessment demonstrating my ability to prepare and evaluate reports, memos, and other documents to meet the professional standards within the justice system.
For this project, I developed a report for a fictitious investigator to use as a basis for his own report to a fictitious law firm regarding their client. We could be as creative as we liked outside the initial facts of the case to describe the concepts we learned throughout the course. This outcome was met by preparing a report that defined various defense terms such as the “affirmative defense” as well as explaining the difference between justification and excuse defenses for Jack. I then gave a hypothetical scenario involving exculpatory evidence and created an ethical scenario where a piece of evidence that could have been beneficial to the defense was intentionally undisclosed by the prosecution.

CRJU212 - The Science and Practice of Criminal Investigation Portfolio Project
This assessment is to show my ability to adapt essential communication skills to interact effectively with supervisors, peers, and the public in various justice professional settings.
For this project, I had to create field notes, an evidence log, and an overall investigative plan to solve the fictitious case I was given. I had to discuss the methods used to analyze evidence to find and arrest the suspect and summarize the questioning of witnesses and the suspect interrogation without altering the facts given. This outcome was met by completing all documents needed to complete an investigation including an investigative plan, field notes, case overview, and evidence log.

HUSS 235 - Crisis Intervention Portfolio Project
This assessment will show my ability to communicate findings in visual, written, and/or oral formats by utilizing the appropriate current technology and resources to locate and evaluate information needed to accomplish a given goal.
From a hypothetical crisis scenario, I had to prepare for an upcoming home visit with the person in crisis, complete an evaluation of services and evaluate how each service would be helpful in this particular case, and use the Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention along with my findings from the home visit to provide information on any safety factors and other issues within the home that contribute to the current crisis, and what services I would recommend for the hypothetical family and why. This outcome was met by gathering all the above information and uploading and submitting my video presentation to the Crisis Intervention team that consisted of an explanation of how I applied the Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention to the given scenario and a plan for dealing with the family including what the contributing factors were as well as what I felt would be the appropriate recommendations based on service needs.

PSYC 101 - Principles of Psychology Portfolio Project
This assessment will show my ability to transfer the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that I have acquired through my life experiences as well as through my formal and informal learning to new situations.
For this project, I had to write a one-page essay analyzing the results of a personality test that I took and defend whether I agree or disagree with the results. I also had to explain how the traits assessed in this personality test can both support and hinder interpersonal relationships. This outcome was met by taking a free personality assessment called The “Big Five”: The Factor Model and taking the results and using them to complete the project.

MATH201 - College Mathematics-Quantitative Reasoning
This assessment will show my ability to form conclusions and make decisions by following established methods of inquiry and mathematical reasoning.
For this project, I had to use information from my budget to calculate ratios and proportions in analyzing my financial situation to determine if I was ready to apply for a small business loan. To meet this outcome I used my income, expenses, and savings in a basic budget template to use mathematical reasoning to get my expense ratios and savings ratios and then compared those ratios to expert-recommended debt and savings ratios and analyzed my financial picture.
