My Bio: Brandy English
Brandy English
I have been dedicated to the early childhood education profession for nearly 30 years and have a lot of experience serving children, families, and educators throughout Central Florida. I have served as a childcare director since 2004, bringing over 22 years of leadership experience in early childhood education.
Throughout my career, I have worked as a teacher, assistant director, director, mentor, and trainer. I have completed a degree in Early Childhood Education and serve as a National CDA Professional Development Specialist. My experience includes childcare administration, staff development, curriculum planning, Florida DCF regulations, School Readiness, VPK, and family engagement.
As a childcare director, I work with Early Learning Coalitions and maintain childcare service contracts with four Florida counties: Seminole, Orange, Volusia, and Flagler. This experience has given me a broader understanding of the different needs of childcare providers, families, and the communities they serve.
I understand the challenges private for-profit childcare providers face, including staffing shortages, low teacher wages, increasing operating expenses, and maintaining quality care while keeping childcare affordable for working families.
I am passionate about helping early childhood educators further their education by connecting them with free training opportunities, CDA scholarships, director credential programs, and professional development resources such as the Institute for Early
Learning.
My commitment extends beyond the classroom. Growing up in a single-parent household and becoming a young mother helped me understand the importance of strong family support systems. I believe early childhood education should focus on supporting the whole family, not just the child.
As a mentor and community leader, I believe in leading, by example, building relationships, and helping others reach their goals. I understand the importance of listening to families, supporting teachers, and working together to strengthen early childhood programs.
My belief is simple: I believe it takes a village to raise, educate, and support a child. When families, educators, childcare providers, and community leaders work together, we create a strong foundation that allows every child the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

Assess academic, life, and
career situations that promote
cultural sensitivity, global and
economic awareness, and a
sense of belonging.
CAPS265 helped me look at my education, professional experience, career goals, and the changing workplace. I learned more about transferable skills, networking, professional communication, and working successfully with people from different backgrounds. After many years in early childhood education, I understand that
learning continues throughout your career. This course helped me recognize the value of my experience while also preparing me for future opportunities. I can use these skills to continue growing as a leader, mentor, and early childhood professional.

CAPS265 helped me connect what I learned in college with the knowledge and experience I already have from many years in early childhood education. I have been able to look at my education, leadership experience, and transferable skills and see how they work together. This course has also helped me think about my
future career goals. I can use both my education and professional experience to continue growing as a childcare professional, leader, mentor, and advocate for children and families.

Utilize

visual, written, or oral formats.
ENGL202 helped me improve my research, writing, and communication skills. I learned how to locate reliable information, determine whether sources were appropriate, organize information, and communicate my findings clearly. These skills are important in early childhood education because I regularly communicate with parents, staff, community organizations, and other professionals. I also need to research regulations and resources and prepare written communication. The
course helped me become more comfortable using information and technology in a professional and responsible manner.

ECED202 strengthened my leadership and organizational skills in early childhood education. I learned about planning, recordkeeping, staff responsibilities, policies, family communication, and operating an effective childcare program. These skills relate directly to my professional experience because organization is a major part
of managing a childcare center. I must maintain records, communicate with parents and staff, complete reports, plan activities, and make sure deadlines are met. Good organization helps the program operate smoothly and professionally.

Observe, document, and

children and families teaching
and learning.
In ECED204, I learned how observation and assessment can be used to
understand children's development and individual needs. I practiced documenting children's behavior and development and using assessment information to plan appropriate learning experiences. I also learned about tools such as ASQ and Teaching Strategies GOLD. These skills are useful in the workplace because teachers must observe children, document progress, communicate with families, and use assessment results to decide when a child may need additional support
or different learning strategies.

Create respectful, reciprocal relationships with children's families and communities to foster involvement and support children's development and learning.
HUSS125 helped me better understand how family relationships, culture, experiences, and community resources affect children. I learned that families need to feel respected, heard, and included in their child's education. This connects strongly to my work because I communicate with families every day and help them locate resources when needed. My experience has taught me that supporting the whole family can also support the child. Building trusting relationships helps families and childcare professionals work together for children's success.

Thinking Abilities - Examine

learning processes focused
on continual improvement.
In SOSC115, I learned the difference between formal and informal learning. Formal learning takes place in a classroom or structured training program, while informal learning happens through everyday experiences, working with others, and solving problems. With my years of experience in early childhood education, I realize that I have learned a lot through hands-on experiences, mentoring others, and working with families. This course helped me understand that both types of learning are important for my personal and professional growth.

strategies to positively impact
child behavior and social-
emotional development.
In ECED203, I learned how to develop lesson plans and activities that support the whole child. My portfolio project allowed me to plan developmentally appropriate activities using curriculum, learning standards, and observations of children. I learned how to adjust activities for children with different abilities and learning needs. These skills connect directly to my work in early childhood education because I plan curriculum, support teachers, and make sure children receive meaningful learning experiences.
